A sufficiently high value (4 to 8 ° DH) prevents acidification in the pond environment and, due to the bound CO2, ensures a good development of the oxygen plants.
The KH value of the water indicates the amount of carbonated calcium and magnesium. The KH value is therefore referred to as the acid-binding capacity of the water. Oxygen plants in particular require a KH value of at least 4 ° DH for good growth. At a value less than 4 ° DH, the acid-binding capacity is low, as a result of which the pH value can drop and acidification occurs. The ideal KH value for ornamental ponds is between 4 and 8 ° DH.
